Girl in the Pink City: A Love Letter to Jaipur in Watercolors
Share
Growing up in the heart of Jaipur, I was surrounded by history, beauty, and a unique architectural charm that I didn't fully appreciate at the time. It was only when I pursued architecture that I began to see my city in high definition—every arch, every facade, and every color started to tell a story. The more I learned about design, the more I recognized the poetry hidden in the streets I had walked my entire life.
This deep-rooted connection to Jaipur and its heritage fuels my art. Through watercolors, I capture the essence of my city—the places, the moments, and the nostalgia that make Jaipur home. Girl in the Pink City is an intimate collection of 10 watercolor prints, each telling a different story of the streets, buildings, and life within Jaipur.

Chaura Rasta, one of Jaipur’s most vibrant streets, is home to a simple yet mesmerizing facade with jali windows peeking onto the lively road. A tree stands in conversation with the pink brick building, their coexistence resembling two old friends sharing stories. The contrast between the warm architecture and the cool sky makes this composition a favorite.

From childhood picnics to school trips, Kanak Ghati has been a cherished retreat. Its warm yet cool color palette balances intricacy with openness—seen in the beautifully detailed doors, parapets, and flooring. The grand chhatri above and the trees greeting from the side breathe life into the scene. This piece captures Jaipur’s architecture blending seamlessly with nature.

A hidden gem in Johari Bazaar, this building’s modernist charm comes alive with geometric arches, repetitive windows, and contrasting white stripes. There’s a sense of movement in its design, making the structure dynamic. Fun fact: Hindu Jiya Band played at my parents’ wedding, making this piece even more special.

Johari Bazaar, the city’s buzzing marketplace, is a feast for the senses. I passed through this lane daily on my way to school, never realizing the beauty in the overlapping frames of arches and doorways. In this piece, I finally embraced Jaipur’s framing artistry, where architecture itself is a storyteller.
The Balcony

A facade in Chaura Rasta caught my eye—its windows and delicate white details mimicking a balcony that doesn’t actually exist. The proportion of the sky in this composition is unique, creating an open, airy feel. It’s the only painting in the collection where the sky takes center stage.
